In 2019, HEAR Center paused our long-running free speech and hearing screening programs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we discussed how to continue outreach in our communities, safely and with distance in mind, we thought about what would be most helpful for families at home.
We launched our Webinar Program later that year. The goal: bring relevant and interesting information on speech, language and hearing to community members—virtually through Zoom, at no cost. Our webinars are created and hosted by Josephine Sarreal (Communication Disorders, BA and current AuD candidate) with collaboration from speech and hearing professionals.
Whether you’re a parent, preschool teacher or someone curious about Daily Routines to Strengthen Your Child’s Hearing at Home or Best Practices for Communicating with the Hard of Hearing, our webinars are made for everyone.
We conclude all live webinars with a Q&A session where a speech-language professional or audiologist takes questions from the audience. This is an excellent opportunity for learning, discussion and to hear from other community members. We encourage our audience to participate in the Q&A if they have questions about speech, language or hearing.
With accessibility in mind, we also record each webinar without an audience and upload it to HEAR Center’s Youtube channel. Each video has closed captioning (CC) features that can be enabled.
