Tinnitus (TIN – uh – tis) is what many people refer to as “ringing in the ears”. It can sound like many different things: tones, rushing sounds, or buzzing. Tinnitus can originate from different conditions, but in many cases it is completely normal and does not indicate anything wrong. If you have tinnitus, we recommend that you tell your primary care provider and get a hearing test.

If your tinnitus is affecting your daily life, there are other evaluations that can be done, such as matching the pitch and loudness of your ringing. Currently, the best treatment course for severe tinnitus is a combination of Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and maskers (small devices that plays calming noises into your ears). We do not currently offer TRT or CBT at HEAR Center, but when you come for a hearing test, we can discuss options and make appropriate referrals.
