Custom Ear Plugs & Molds

HEAR Center offers a variety of custom ear plugs–whether you’re a professional musician, regularly exposed to loud industrial noises, or just want to reduce noise while you sleep. We use high quality materials and work with the top laboratories in the country to ensure that you get the best protection and the best fit.

All custom product appointments will begin with the audiologist making sure you have clear ear canals. If there is any ear wax or other debris in the canal, you may be asked to reschedule, as this can impact the quality of the impression and lead to an improper fit.

Once the audiologist has looked in your ears, they will place a cotton or sponge blocker in your ear canal. They will mix the material and place it in your ear canal. After 3 to 5 minutes the material will harden, and it can safely be removed from the ear. Once the impression is taken you will be able to choose the specific style, color, and material of your product. It will be sent to a lab to be made into your custom product.

According to the Hearing Health Foundation, professional musicians are almost 4 times as likely to develop noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and 57% more likely to develop tinnitus.

Popular Customer Products Include:

For all these custom items, impressions are taken at the office and sent out to manufacturer to make the custom product. Typically takes 3-4 weeks to make after impression are made. Rush options are available.

Custom Earmolds for Hearing Aids:

The earmold’s main purpose is to conduct sound from a behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aid into your ear. It also helps provide retention and ensure that the hearing aid is secure on your ear. A well-fitting earmold prevents feedback whistling from the hearing aid by preventing sound leakage. They connect to BTE hearing aids by way of tube or wire.

Custom Hearing Aids:

These impressions are made into hearing aids that fit into the ear canal and the bowl of the ear. All the hearing aid components will be housed within the mold. They vary in size and shape based on ear canal anatomy and amount of hearing loss.

Musician Earplugs:

Musicians earplugs are designed to reduce the volume of sound without distorting the quality of music or speech. These are perfect for musicians and many other professions such as dentists, hairdressers, and engineers. They come with your choice of 9 dB, 15 dB, or 25 dB filters, depending on how much you need the volume lowered.

Sleep/Swim Plugs:

Swim and sleep plugs are meant to completely block out noise and water from the ear. Unlike the musician plugs, these plugs are solid and do not have filters that can be switched out.

Ear protection:

We can make a variety of additional custom ear plugs for those who need hearing protection while shooting, while at work in construction, engineering, healthcare, sanitization, or others fields, or while participating in noisy hobbies like motorcycle riding or landscaping. These could include solid plugs, small acoustic filters that allow for awareness of game and tracking dogs, or electronic devices that shut off sound when a loud noise is detected. We will work with you to select an appropriate ear protection for your lifestyle or profession.
